چکیده

It is well known since the pioneering work of Goldbeter and Koshland [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, vol. 78, pp. 6840-6844 (1981)] that cellular phosphorylationdephosphorylation cycle (PdPC), catalyzed by kinase and phosphatase under saturated condition with zeroth order enzyme kinetics, exhibits ultrasensitivity, sharp transition. We analyse the dynamics aspects of the zeroth order PdPC kinetics and show a critical slowdown akin to the phase transition in condensed matter physics. We demonstrate that an extremely simple, though somewhat mathematically “singular” model is a faithful representation of the ultrasentivity phenomenon. The simplified mathematical model will be valuable, as a component, in developing complex cellular signaling netowrk theory as well as having a pedagogic value. Sufficient conditions on the zeroth-order general Randic index for maximally edge-connected digraphs

Let D be a digraph with vertex set V(D) .For vertex v V(D), the degree of v, denoted by d(v), is defined as the minimum value if its out-degree  and its in-degree . Now let D be a digraph with minimum degree  and edge-connectivity If  is real number, then the zeroth-order general Randic index is defined by   .  A digraph is maximally edge-connected if . In this paper we present sufficient condi...

Robust Network Topologies for Generating Switch-Like Cellular Responses

Signaling networks that convert graded stimuli into binary, all-or-none cellular responses are critical in processes ranging from cell-cycle control to lineage commitment. To exhaustively enumerate topologies that exhibit this switch-like behavior, we simulated all possible two- and three-component networks on random parameter sets, and assessed the resulting response profiles for both steepnes...

Zero-order ultrasensitivity: a study of criticality and fluctuations under the total quasi-steady state approximation in the linear noise regime.

Zero-order ultrasensitivity (ZOU) is a long known and interesting phenomenon in enzyme networks. Here, a substrate is reversibly modified by two antagonistic enzymes (a 'push-pull' system) and the fraction in modified state undergoes a sharp switching from near-zero to near-unity at a critical value of the ratio of the enzyme concentrations, under saturation conditions. ZOU and its extensions h...

A note on the zeroth-order general randić index of cacti and polyomino chains

The present note is devoted to establish some extremal results for the zeroth-order general Randi'{c} index of cacti, characterize the extremal polyomino chains with respect to the aforementioned index, and hence to generalize two already reported results.

Effects of T208E activating mutation on MARK2 protein structure and dynamics: Modeling and simulation

Microtubule Affinity-Regulating Kinase 2 (MARK2) protein has a substantial role in regulation of vital cellular processes like induction of polarity, regulation of cell junctions, cytoskeleton structure and cell differentiation. The abnormal function of this protein has been associated with a number of pathological conditions like Alzheimer disease, autism, several carcinomas and development of...
